"Who's your hero?" Program

Christmas Toy Giveaway

Program for girl’s ages 9-12 to gain confidence, learn to make good choices, develop positive attitudes and have fun. Program occurs each Friday from September to June and is limited to fifteen girls on a first come first served basis.

Northtown residents receive gifts of toys for their children in collaboration with RC Fire Departments’ Spark of Love. First come first served basis. Limited to number of families designated by the Fire Department. Toys are distributed when received before Christmas

College Scholarship Program

After school Recreation and Tutoring

College scholarship for students who have demonstrated exceptional community service and leadership, and who desire to attend college.
NHDC will provide one scholarship of $1,500.00 per year for up to four years to assist with payment of student tuition and college expenses.  Open to students in the Chaffey Joint Union School district. Scholarship packets are available at Chaffey Joint Union High Schools and the Northtown Community Center by mid February of each school year for graduating seniors

Open to elementary, middle, and high school students who attend schools within the Cucamonga and Chaffey Joint Union High School Districts. Children may play pool; play station, ping-pong, foosball, air hockey, movies, computer games and more. Tutoring is also available for students who need help with math, reading, or English. Participants must register at the Northtown Community Center and have an emergency card on file. Monday through Friday 2:00-6:00PM

VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance)

Summer Feeding Program

Free income tax assistance for persons residing in San Bernardino County with incomes less than $60,000 per year.  Saturdays, February through April on a first come, first served basis

Free hot meals are served at the Center Monday through Friday in collaboration with the Cucamonga School District. Available to all children ages 2-18 for seven weeks during the summer. First come first served basis. No registration required but all meals must be eaten on site.

C.A.S.A. Healthy Cooking Classes

Human Service Programs

The Cocinando Amigos Saludables Y Alegres project aims to support healthy eating habits for adults and families. Healthy cooking classes will be offered free of charge for adults and youth with preference given to Northtown residents. Classes offered each Tuesday 4:00PM-9:00PM. Classes end December 2010.

Department of Aging an Adult Services informational sessions by appointment only at Olen Jones Senior Community. Examples of these sessions are Medical help, In Home Services, Senior Information and Assistance, Senior Employment, Family Care Giver Support programs. Olen Jones Senior Community has information on dates, times and availability.

Computer Classes

Summer Day Camp

Bilingual beginning and advanced classes for adults. First come first served basis. Limited to ten students per class.  Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am to 10:00am

Northtown children ages seven to ten attend camp three weeks each summer. Children receive instruction, play games, make crafts, and may take field trips, which relate to the theme of the camp. NCC Summer Camp is limited to 30 children on a first come first served basis.

School Community Service

Thanksgiving Baskets

High school and college students are given the opportunity to interact/tutor elementary and middle school students as part of their requirements for graduation. Ongoing Monday through Friday.

Northtown residents in need may receive turkey and all the trimmings for a Thanksgiving dinner on a first come basis depending on the amount of baskets donated to NCC.

Distribution takes place Thanksgiving week.

Job Application Assistance

Free Government Food Commodities

Northtown residents filing out job applications may bring them to the center for assistance with their paperwork, job searches on the Internet and mock interviews. By appointment only.

Surplus food is available to all Rancho Cucamonga residents on a first come first served basis who meet income and residency requirements of the San Bernardino County Food Bank. All persons receiving commodities must show identification and proof of income. Commodities distributed on the first Monday of each month.

College/Financial Aid Application Assistance

Healthy Families, Medical, and Social Security Application Assistance

Potential students and/or their parents meet to discuss colleges, meeting admission requirements, applying for financial aid, deadlines, and follow up. By appointment only.

Northtown residents can bring in applications to be filled out for these social service agencies.  Follow up is done with each family and use of the Internet is also available if needed. By appointment only.

Emergency Voucher Program

Emergency Services Referrals

Hotel vouchers are available to Northtown residents in need of emergency shelter beginning in January until funds budgeted for the program is exhausted.

Referrals are available to residents for emergency food, shelter, landlord tenant disputes, immigration, low cost medical, dental services, legal aid etc. All services are available by appointment only and are free of charge.

Northtown Healthy RC Partnership

Happy Feet Shoe Give Away

NHDC is a partner in the Healthy Mind, Body, and Earth initiative grant awarded to the City of Rancho Cucamonga from the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation. The grant focuses on Healthy Eating, Healthy Lifestyles, and fighting Childhood Obesity with its primary focus on the area of the city known as Southwest Cucamonga.

Northtown children are provided shoes for the new school year. In collaboration with City of Rancho Cucamonga Rotary Club and Payless Shoe Source. Limited on a first come first serve basis to the first one hundred children who have registered previously with NHDC.

Distribution of shoes occurs in July.

Northtown Partnership Collaboration

Youth for Change /Health Career

NHDC partners with the City of Rancho Cucamonga to provide Recreational and Cultural Programs to Northtown residents. Registration required. *Check with the City of Rancho Cucamonga Community Services Department or NCC for classes, dates, days and times.

Program for middle and high school students to teach self-empowerment, self-esteem, making good choices, college, general wellness, and information about various careers in the health industry.  Each Thursday from 3:30 to 5:00 PM during the school year.

Healthy Snack Program

Back Pack Give Away

Healthy Snacks provided after school Monday through Friday at the Community Center from September to May on a first come first served basis.

Three Hundred children are provided with new backpacks for the new school year. First come first served basis. Sponsored by Frito Lay and NHDC. Backpack distribution occurs in July Registration for receipt of backpacks occurs the day of the distribution at the distribution site.
